The Fiber Artist Supply Co. Top Whorl Drop Spindle is very popular among spinning instructors in search of an inexpensive beginner spindle. We take care ensuring these spindles spin true, giving every spindle a test spin prior to shipment. The conical shape of the maple whorl puts additional weight around the rim, helping the spindle spin longer and stay more stable. A notch in the whorl helps keep your spun yarn in place. The spindles are individually crafted in our Cincinnati, OH workshop of maple and beech from domestic and international sources.

Wonderful for beginners
I use these spindles as part of the beginning spinners kits at my shop. They're a GREAT low cost option that allows the newbies to see if they like spinning while not investing a ton of money into the craft. People also buy these spindles from me for one-off projects, and they just love them. I sell a ton. I highly recommend these spindles.

Perfect spindle for beginners - great performance
I often end up teaching someone how to spin, so I like to have a bunch of these spindles on hand. They are well balanced and they spin for quite a while. The notch on the whorl and the long shaft are both very helpful for beginners. I also use one myself if I'm going to spin while walking. I wouldn't want to risk having an expensive spindle hit the pavement. Since I buy in bulk, a good spindle for $3.50 is a huge bargain. I sell them at cost to the beginners and $3.50 isn't a barrier to most people. (Sometimes I give them away).
