About Us

Fiber Artist Supply Company was founded in 2007 by Timothy and Cynthia Hale. What began as a small, hands-on project—making yarn swifts in a garage while attending college—grew naturally through collaboration and shared enthusiasm within the fiber community. Early partnerships with fellow makers, including Ben Everingham, helped shape the company’s direction, with Ben's handcrafted wool combs gaining wide recognition among fiber artists online.

Through periods of transition and limited resources, the business continued to move forward, supported by guild partnerships, a growing online presence, and a strong sense of community. In 2010, Tim relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, where the company steadily expanded and eventually established a dedicated workshop in 2015.

Since then, Fiber Artist Supply Company has remained focused on thoughtful design and continuous improvement. Milestones include the introduction of the jumbo yarn ball winder in 2017 and the revival and modernization of Woolhouse Tools looms beginning in 2021. Today, the company produces high-quality knitting and weaving tools with a focus on craftsmanship, durability, and the creative work they support.

Meet The Team

Timothy - Founder and Designer

Timothy is an American loom designer and builder. After earning degrees in economics and accounting in 2008, Tim shifted his focus to creating yarn tools—a journey sparked by a chance encounter with Deborah Chandler’s Beginning 4-Harness Weaving DVD. That introduction to weaving quickly grew into a passion that has shaped his work ever since.

From his Cincinnati, Ohio studio—where he has collaborated with a rotating cast of helpers since 2012—Tim has designed a wide range of tools to make the fiber arts more enjoyable and accessible.

Emma - Customer Service

After earning a degree in product design, Emma started working in the textile and yarn industry - at a fiber farm and cottage yarn mill - before bringing her skills to Fiber Artist Supply Company. Her love of textiles began at 14 when she learned to crochet and her passion for natural yarn has grown to include knitting, weaving, spinning, and dyeing. In her free time, Emma dyes yarn at her small yarn brand, Coates & Co.
