It doesn't get much better than this if you're looking to add a traditional-style marudai to add to your collection of fiber arts tools. Our goal here was simple: take the best attributes from the many traditional marudai we've seen over our years around the craft, and create a marudai kit that was traditional, beautiful, and affordable. We were very pleased with the result and are proud to present this kit!
This maple marudai stands just over 26" tall and features a hand-turned mirror of approximately 9-3/4" in diameter. Steel hardware allows users to assemble/disassemble the stand in minutes when traveling. Please be aware that because of the fact that each mirror is individually hand-turned, each mirror will vary slightly in form and color from the stock photo. Each piece of wood has its own unique characteristics and the expert craftsmen here at the Fiber Artist Supply Company take great care to work with these characteristics to create a mirror that looks beautiful and works with these natural characteristics. Mirrors are high-speed sanded until super smooth and finished with an semi-gloss varnish. The center hole is 1-1/2" in diameter.
Maple Deluxe Marudai Kit: The kit has everything you need to get braiding as soon as you receive it, and includes:
Premium Hand-Turned Maple Marudai
8-70 Gram Hard Maple Tama
Double Pointed Dowel

I've been braiding with a foam disk since 2006. In 2009 I bought a small marudai with no well (the tapered center that leads to the hole) and struggled mightily with making braids on it. So I stuck with disk braiding, thinking I was not coordinated enough to work on a marudai. Early in 2014 I was persuaded to try again and directed to this fabulous kit. The first day I got it and set it up, I was able to make a satisfactory braid immediately and braided with my marudai almost every day since then.
I have this kit with the 24 inch legs so it can be used comfortably while sitting in a chair. This is a quality piece of wooden furniture and it does not look out of place in my living room. The tama are just as lovely as the stand, so loaded up with nice thread it looks like a piece of art.
